View Askew Record Designs
In 2018, I had the opportunity to design the artwork for the vinyl release of the Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back vinyl release. Sadly, the project was cancelled at the 11th hour due to rights issues between Universal Music and Miramax's holding company.
It was, however, still a pleasure collaborating with Kevin Smith's team on the look for this release. Kevin even wrote new liner notes featured in this design.
The front cover was a nod to the film's Star Wars-like opening titles. The logo and stars would be covered in a spot UV film to recreate the shine in the film's on-screen 3D logo.
Another proposal was to update SRCVinyl's release of Clerks: Music from the Motion Picture to celebrate the films, then, upcoming 25th anniversary. The idea for the cover was to take an updated photo of the Quick Stop in New Jersey to highlight the passage of time since the film's release.
The image above is a photoshop comp of a Google Street View screen-cap with updated foliage. The photo would have been taken on black and white film to mimic the movie's original 16mm look. Sadly, this design never made it past the concept stage.
